Garbage Hopper
The original hopper was fitted with all-metal wheels. These wheels cut up the concrete at the entry to the garbage shed. It was decided that the wheels should be replaced with polyurethane-covered wheels which had a much softer impact on the concrete. The replacement wheels were obtained from Apollo Fabrication in Young, NSW. The original wheels are stored on the internal top of the front external wall of the garbage shed. (2006)
Recycling Bins
Government policy (2006) was to provide a multi-unit complex with 1 x 240 litre recycling bin per three units.
Following representations an additional entitlement of 4 x 240 litre recycling bins was allocated to our complex – one each for the 4 Units with Foxton Cres kerbside frontage AND a separate driveway. Accordingly individual recycling bins were provided to Units 1, 4,5 and 6. Extra bins were not provided for Units 2 and 3 as they do not have separate driveways facing Foxton Crescent. The owners of Unit # 5 generously agreed to locate their bin in the garbage shed where it could be used by all owners. Repair and/or replacement of the bins is arranged by the contractor when necessary.
Green Bins
While every freestanding house in a suburb can have a green bin, as of May 2023 multi-unit developments such as The Gardens can only have a limited number of bins, see https://www.cityservices.act.gov.au/recycling-and-waste/multi-unit-developments/green-bins-in-new-development-design. Once that number has been reached, as it has in the case of The Gardens, any other owner wishing to obtain a green bin must apply to ACT City Services via the body corporate manager. Unit 10 received a green bin in 2022 following such an application.
